Can the Foundation make grants to individuals?

No, the Foundation cannot make grants or give monies to individuals. Funds are only awarded to I.R.S. Section 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organizations in order to carry out specific projects and/or programs that are clearly identified.

What are the current areas of focus for the Rice Family Foundation?

In general, the Foundation has an interest in educational and professional development programs. However, recently our focus has narrowed, and we are extremely interested in projects that advance early childhood education and development.

Is there a form or specific format that the Rice Family Foundation requires for inquiries, full proposals and/or evaluation reports on grants made to an organization?

What is the timeline for submitting a Letter of Inquiry? Is there a due date?

The Foundation accepts unsolicited letters of inquiry year-round.

How long does it take to get a response to a Letter of Inquiry?

The Foundation provides a response to most Letters of Inquiry within a month of receipt. The response may be a request for additional information about your inquiry, an invitation to submit a full proposal or a declination.

Is there a limit on the amount of money that can be requested?

No, but the amount of money requested should be supported by the commitment of the organization to the proposed project.

What is the typical size of the grant awarded?

There is no typical size. The amount awarded differs from each grant and is based on the size and complexity of the project.

If an organization is invited to submit a full grant application, is the request automatically granted?

No, but this means we are interested in learning more about your project.

Can an organization apply for more than one grant in the same year?

Yes, however organizations should make sure to check the guidelines for each program to ensure that their activities fit within the Foundation's funding priorities.

Can an organization apply for multi-year funding?

Yes, we do provide multi-year funding in certain situations.
